Randfontein Police is investigating a case of culpable homicide after a cyclist was struck by a taxi on Main Reef Road and the R41 early Thursday morning January 26. The cyclists sadly died on the scene.

West Rand District Police spokesperson Sergeant Gloria Maswanganye confirmed the taxi driver was travelling from Krugersdorp and heading towards Randfontein at the time of the incident.

“The intersection was green and the taxi driver had right of way. The 54-year-old cyclist was travelling from Kagiso and did not see the taxi; that’s when he [the cyclist] collided with the taxi. He died on the scene,” said Sergeant Maswanganye.
