Myburgh Community Safety Unit assists in the fight against crime

Random stop and searches led to the arrest of illegal miners, illegal immigrants and the confiscation of dagga during a joint effort between the Myburgh Community Safety Unit, Sector 2 CPF and cops.

The Myburgh Community Safety Unit, Sector 2 Community Policing Forum (CPF) and police joined hands in a multidisciplinary operation to clamp down on crime last Wednesday, January 19 in Toekomsrus and surrounds.

Myburgh Community Safety Unit’s head of operations Randy Christian said random stop and searches were conducted and arrests were made relating to illegal mining and illegal immigration. A large quantity of dagga was also confiscated.

“We also discovered an illegal scrap yard at the dumping site where a scale and various other equipment had to be seized. Our focus is also on visibility within our community in order to mitigate street robberies and possible incidents that may be related to crime.”

He added that their efforts were welcomed by the majority of the community.

“This will definitely strengthen relationships between the CPF, police and the communities in which they conduct their services. We would like to thank all the stakeholders involved during this fruitful exercise.”
