RHS’ top achiever bags six distinctions

Lesedi Dimo is Randfontein High School’s top achiever and bagged an impressive six distinctions.

The 17-year-old who resides in Greenhills managed a distinction in Mathematics, Life Sciences, Life Orientation, Physical Science, Computer Application Technology (CAT) and Afrikaans.

The Herald caught up with him on the school grounds during celebrations with fellow school mates for the class of 2022 early Friday morning, January 20.

“I’m elated to say the least and very happy that I passed. It’s so surreal because I didn’t really think that I will get six distinctions, especially Afrikaans … it’s just amazing,” Dimo said.

Speaking about the pressure the final school year brings, Lesedi said exams were stressful and terrifying but he came out on top.

“I tried to work hard to the best of my abilities. I don’t think there’s an actual formula to this but I tried to do my best in everything I did,” Dimo said, who added he now has plans on becoming an Actuarial Scientist.

He already received an acceptance letter to study at Stellenbosch University and is confident that other institutions will follow suit and send him acceptance letters as well.

His mother Precious Dimo said she is very proud of her son.

“He has worked hard for the longest of times and I think he deserves this victory. He developed the sense of studying, hard work and commitment since primary school so we didn’t struggle with him, all we had to do was to support him,” said mom.
