Mohlakeng resident Fikile Farrow is not going down without a fight and refuses to give up on her dream of enriching the young minds of Zenzele through reading material in the form of books.
This comes after she received a donation of books from a local resident who does not wish to be named. The donation has given Farrow hope and is confident that she will get back on her feet.
Farrow’s makeshift-library in the form of a freight container was stolen in December last year and news of this was brought to her attention by members of the public on New Year’s Eve. A case has since been opened and is under investigation. It was also vandalised prior to this with the suspects breaking a window of the freight container and stealing the books.

She said although the theft of her makeshift-library still pains her, the donation has given her hope and a sense of purpose once again.
According to her, she will continue using the books to help children from the community despite not having a library to operate from and is thankful for the support.

“I was moved by the community member who donated the books. This is encouragement. The support that I receive from members of the public is amazing, especially after this drastic incident. I feel that I’m being encouraged by the universe not to give up on the work that I do for the community and it shows me that even in such difficult times, I’m not alone. The members of the community at large support me and it’s a good indication for me that I need to continue with the work I’m doing.
“I’m not going to give up. I’m very grateful,” Farrow said.
