Mixed bag of emotions for Avanté Grade 1s

Avanté Primary School in Middelvlei welcomed their first Grade 1s for 2023 on Tuesday, January 10.

It’s all systems go for Grade 1 learners at Avanté Primary School in Middelvlei for 2023.

The newbies took to the next big step in their school journey on January 10 with their parents right by their side.
This was for orientation purposes and for a meet and greet with their teachers ahead of the official school opening on January, 11.

Lesedi Nyathi will be in Grade 1 this year.

Upon the Herald’s arrival at the school, most of them were already given name tags, which made it easier for them to identify themselves among each other and for their teachers.

Speaking to some of them, the Herald was able to get the sense that it’s a mixed bag of emotions for the little ones, who are embarking on their journey of formal education.

“I am looking forward to being in Grade 1 and I am very very happy,” said Tumiso Mani.

Kelly Ubisi and Owami Mofokeng shared the same sentiments and were all smiles.

Ontlametse Moela on the other hand said he misses being in daycare.

Meanwhile, another learner Ontlametse Moela was rather despondent saying he wish he could go back to daycare.

Tumiso Mani said he is very happy to be in big school.

Inland schools which include Gauteng, Free State, Limpopo, Mpumalanga and the North West opened on Monday, January 9 but learners are only officially starting the new school year on Wednesday, January 11.

Kelly Ubisi and Owami Mofokeng are in Grade 1 this year and are excited for the year ahead.
