Potholes resurface across Rand West City after heavy rains

The potholes are causing unnecessary traffic and are resulting in vehicles having to swerve out in front of oncoming traffic to miss the pothole.

Potholes have resurfaced everywhere due to the heavy rains that has hit different parts of the country including Rand West City.

This is evident with the pothole on North Way Road in Greenhills, which was initially filled but has since been resurfaced.

According to local resident Frans le Grange, this is causing an inconvenience to motorists especially this festive season.

“The number of potholes throughout Randfontein is alarming and disturbing to say the least. They are causing unnecessary traffic and are resulting in vehicles having to swerve out in front of oncoming traffic to miss the pothole. While we see the municipality repairing some of the potholes, others are being ignored and this is a hazard for motorists.

“Yes the rain is a contributing factor but the municipality needs to be prepared for this because we pay hefty amounts in rates and taxes,” said Le Grange, who added that as a concerned resident, he is fearing the possibilities of hitting a pothole in wet weather and damaging his car or even veering off the road and causing an accident.

The Herald approached Rand West City Local Municipality (RWCLM) spokesperson Phillip Montshiwa who said that they are dealing with filling up the potholes in the different areas.

This is done as and when they receive complaints from residents, as well as through their weekly Ntirhisano Service Delivery Friday initiative, where RWCLM Executive Mayor Gladys Khoza together with other municipal workers take to the streets and fix dilapidated infrastructure, including filling potholes.
