Irish Hattingh shooting: Family grateful for support

Thys Hattingh, husband of Irish; the woman who was shot and seriously wounded recently, reiterated that the family is blessed and grateful for all the support and added she is responding well to treatment.

The family of the woman who was shot in her car multiple times while driving back from an auction on December 3 is grateful for the support that residents have been offering them during this difficult time and is appreciative of all the donations made thus far.

This is word from the family spokesperson Appel Ernst, who said that the entire family expressed their appreciation towards people who opened up their hearts in contributing financially to Irish Hattingh’s medical expenses.

“We are humbled by the reaction of our greater community, which started various initiatives to assist financially. Although we did not request any person or organisation to raise funds on our behalf, we are grateful for all the support. We as her family, are however currently focusing on Irish and her road to complete recovery,” said Ernst

The Herald recently ran an article regarding residents calling for support for Hattingh in the form of financial help, which will go towards paying for her medical bills.

This was through the BackaBuddy platform which was recently started by community members.

While this platform is still active for donations, the family prefers that an independent organisation administer the funds.

“All funds received for Irish will be administered by the Church Council of the Sionspoort Church of which the Hattingh family are members. Enquiries in this regard may be directed to 082 920 5768 or sionspoort3@gmail.com,” said Ernst.

Meanwhile, Irish’s husband Thys Hattingh reiterated that they are blessed in that Irish is responding well to treatment and continues to tackle follow-up operations in a positive manner.

He added that their children are both in good health and they are receiving the necessary emotional support, to deal with this matter.

The incident occurred at the crossing of Tarlton and Ventersdorp roads in Elandsvlei at about 17:00 and Hattingh was travelling with her 12-year-old son at the time, who walked away unscathed.
