Woman shot in car: Family confirms Irish stable but still in ICU

Irish Hattingh is currently in Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and surgery on the injured limbs was already conducted on Sunday, December 4.

The family of Irish Hattingh, the woman who was shot in her car after visiting an auction facility in Elandsvlei this past weekend, said she is in a stable condition in hospital and currently recovering.

This is according to family spokesperson Appel Ernst who said that Hattingh is currently in Intensive Care Unit (ICU) in hospital.

“Irish is currently in ICU and surgery on the injured limbs was already conducted on Sunday (December 4). This was the first of numerous procedures which will be conducted to ensure her complete recovery. She is comfortable and is receiving the best medical care,” said Ernst who added that the family is aware of the fact that Irish has to face a few obstacles in order to complete recovery.

Ernst added that the family is thankful to the community of Randfontein for the support and acts of love, as well as the unrelenting prayers.

“We are abundantly blessed that Irish’s life was spared and that her son walked away from the incident without injury. We, as the family, prefer to leave the technical aspects of the incident in the hands of the investigating team. We will not be commenting on those issues,” Ernst concluded.

Hattingh was shot in her car on December 3 while travelling from an auction.

The incident occurred at the crossing of Tarlton and Ventersdorp roads in Elandsvlei at about 17:00 and Hattingh was travelling with her 12-year-old son at the time, who walked away unscathed.
