Heaps of rubble dumped near resident’s house

A frustrated resident has gone public regarding the illegal dumping of rubble near his home in Briggs Street.

A Westonaria resident and his wife are fed up with the heaps of rubble dumped in an open veld near their house in Briggs Street.

Their decision to go public comes after having allegedly complained numerous times to the Rand West City Local Municipality (RWCLM)’s waste department.

According to the angered resident, Dean Markotter, trucks from different companies have been dumping the rubble since early this year.

“We started experiencing hectic levels of illegal dumping since May this year and I have reported it to the municipality. Heaps and heaps of rubble is near my house and I’m so disgusted by it. It really is an eyesore to say the least and is a potential breeding ground for criminals.

“I’ve asked the waste department to come tidy up the waste next to my house numerous times and still nothing has been done. I would just like to know when something will be done about the rubble next to my house,” said a frustrated Markotter.

The Herald spoke to RWCLM spokesperson Phillip Montshiwa who said they condemn illegal dumping.

“We condemn illegal dumping in every way, and we discourage people from this illegal act. We will disperse people to the address in question and have the rubble removed,” said Montshiwa.
