Shadow MEC observes RSS matric exam session amid learning environment concerns

Learners at the school are exposed to learning in dilapidated infrastructure made out of asbestos and ceilings that are caving in, as well as unsecured electrical plugs.

The DA’s Gauteng Shadow MEC for Education Khume Ramulifho visited matriculants at Randfontein Secondary School (RSS) in Toekomsrus on Thursday, November 3 to wish them well amid challenges they face in their learning environment.

The visit coincided with his oversight inspection of the school on the day where he was looking into learners at the school being exposed to learning in dilapidated infrastructure made out of asbestos and ceilings that are caving in, as well as unsecured electrical plugs.

Besides wishing them all the best for the exams Ramulifho said learners were writing their final exams in an environment not conducive for learning.

“We urge all learners to remain disciplined and focused during this period which is crucial in shaping their future. We applaud Gauteng teachers and previous learners as they have over the years maintained a pass rate of over 80 percent. We believe that with sufficient and the necessary support from parents and the community the class of 2022 will make our province proud,” said Ramulifho.

He also encouraged matriculants throughout the country to refrain from cheating and pleaded with the Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) to ensure that there are no leaks to ensure credible examinations.
