Four Basotho nationals arrested for house robbery and gang raping young woman

Two sisters had a party when four unknown suspects arrived. They asked for meals and the victims served them.

What was meant to be a celebratory event ended up as a disaster after two sisters, aged 22 and 28, where robbed of their belongings in their home and one of them later gang raped.

This was on Saturday, October 15 in Bekkersdal and comes after the suspects who have been identified as Basotho foreign nationals approached the victims, who were throwing a party at the time, and asked for food.

After they finished their food they left the party and later returned just after midnight to pounce on the sisters who were preparing to go to bed at that time.

Captain Solomon Sibiya from the West Rand District Police Commissioner’s office said the 22-year-old sister was gang raped during the incident.

“The two sisters had a party when four unknown suspects arrived. They asked for meals and the victims served them, after which they ate and left. Just after midnight the four suspects came back and found the sisters preparing to go to bed. One suspect who was armed with a firearm held the victims at gunpoint and demanded their cell phones, cash and bank cards. The suspects thereafter grabbed the 22-year-old victim, forced her into another room at gunpoint. All four of them took turns raping her,” said Sibiya who added that the suspects then fled on foot.

Police officers were called out to the scene and cornered the suspects in the bushes in Ezulwini.

They were arrested and later detained at Bekkersdal Police Station where they were charged with house robbery and four counts of rape.
