Passionate resident gives back to his community

A young businessman recently donated 40 hampers to matric learners at Phahama Secondary School in Mohlakeng.

Mohlakeng resident and young businessman Xolani Hlatshaneni is passionate about giving back to the community. He recently donated 40 hampers to matric learners from Phahama Secondary School.

Speaking to the Herald Xolani said the initiative was part of their As’bonge Foundation and was an effort to spoil the learners and help take their minds off the possible academic stress that could be creeping in ahead of their final examinations later in the year.

“As’bonge Foundation is aimed at offering assistance, especially through donations, to local residents who are in need of help. Our initiative to give away the hampers was aimed at cheering up the learners and we did it from our own pockets.

I know what it’s like being in Grade 12 and just being overwhelmed with the academic stress.

“The last thing one needs is to worry about the possibilities of one’s toiletries running out, especially when one’s focus should be completely on the books,” said the 33-year-old Hlatshaneni who added that he was a former learner of the school.

The hampers were equally divided among the male and female learners at the school and contained items such as facecloths, toothbrushes, tooth paste, body lotion, soap and an extra packet of pads for the female learners.
