WAWA visits Davidsonville

'The event was very well received by the women and the start of greater things for the community.'

This Women’s Day the WAWA Support Group paid a special visit to the women of Davidsonville.

WAWA is an NPO that offers a wide range of services to all victims of crime, among other domestic violence, gender-based violence, rape, robbery, assault, incest and other hate crimes.

Although they currently render these services in Toekomsrus, Munsieville, Muldersdrift, at the Krugersdorp Court and the Mohlakeng Victim Support, WAWA Director Enrique Bhana, decided to reach out to the Davidsonville community as well.

Doing good is good for all communities and that’s why we though it best to visit the Roodepoort ladies. For this event we partnered with local business owners Olivia Cupido from Olive Branch Waxing Studios, Mark’s Driving School and with Ashraful Aid,” he said.

During the event the women were addressed on gender issues and how vacant spaces in the community could be transformed and utilised for food gardens, sporting clubs, luncheons for the elderly and a space where young people in the area can get active.

Olivie Cupido is happy to be a part of the event.

Thanks to Ashraful Aid, a total of 70 food packs were handed out to the women and their families.

The event was very well received by the women and the start of greater things for the community. Let’s work together to create safe spaces for our children and keep on giving to the hopeless,” Cupido said.

Bhana added that food security is a fundamental conversation that needs to be highlighted and taken seriously all over South Africa.

“We believe that it’s up to men and women to create their own solutions. The focus should be on informal settlements especially as such initiatives would also help create jobs for the poor and vulnerable in society,” he concluded.

The event was well received by all in attendance.
