An act of kindness had a ripple effect in Simunye in Westonaria, leading to some community members coming out in their numbers to help fix a resident’s house that was gutted by fire.

This came after the Herald published a story on August 4 detailing how Maggy Solodai received building supplies from a local businessman to help fix her house.
Her house was burned down by her drug-addicted brother following an argument between the siblings.
When the material was delivered the Herald spoke to community member Mzamo Sibiya who said, “We believe in the spirit of Ubuntu and we were more than happy to assist our fellow community member.
We might not have been able to help her financially, but we can assist with the labour needed to fix the house.
“I will be fixing the electrical connections to ensure that her house is lit up again, while others will be taking on the painting and other repairs,” said Sibiya.
Solodai, who lives with her two children said she was excited to be receiving the help and would forever be grateful to those involved.
She is staying elsewhere in the meantime to allow for the renovations to be done.
