House gutted by fire in sibling rivalry

'My house has been in shambles for so long and that is now a thing of the past.'

A good Samaritan offered a helping hand and donated building supplies to a woman whose house was burned down by her brother, who is a drug addict.

This comes after the two siblings got into a fight over the brother’s unruly behaviour at their home in Simunye Extension 5, which saw him torching the house to take revenge.

Speaking to the Herald, local resident Lawrence Mahlalela said he reached out to the community for assistance, following the incident at Maggy Solodai’s home.

We were truly in shock when Solodai’s house went up in flames and all I wanted to do was help but did not have the financial means to do so.

“I reached out to the community for assistance in every way possible and luckily local businessman Nazir Haseen heard our plight and donated building material to help fix Solodai’s home,” said Mahlalela.

The donated items include ceiling boards, wood, a door frame, an entrance door, waterproofing material for the roof, paint and a complete toilet set.

Haseen said he hoped that the donation would go a long way in restoring Solodai’s home to its former glory.

“I really felt sad when I was informed of what truly transpired at the woman’s home and as a businessman in the area, I felt I needed to give back in some way.

I just couldn’t imagine the pain the woman must have gone through seeing her house being gutted by flames,” said Haseen who added that having a complete roof over her house is what he sought to achieve with his efforts.

Meanwhile, Solodai was grateful for the help and said for her, this was an answered prayer.

“I feel so blessed to have received such help from Mr Haseen.

“My house has been in shambles for so long and that is now a thing of the past,” said Solodai who added that she’ll forever be grateful to him and to Mahlalela for their help.
