Rand Water implements water restrictions, municipality warns

The municipality has issued a warning to Randfontein residents that water restrictions have been implemented, this means no filling swimming pools and using hosepipes for gardens among other restrictions.

Rand West City Local Municipality (RWCLM) has warned consumers to restrict their water consumption as Gauteng is currently dealing with water challenges.

According to municipal spokesperson Phillip Montshiwa, Rand Water has since implemented water restrictions as a result.

Montshiwa explained restrictions such as the use of hosepipes and irrigation systems for gardens are prohibited. Cleaning patios, driveways and vehicles with hosepipes will also not be permitted nor will filling swimming pools be allowed.

“These water restrictions are necessary to ensure that there is enough water supply for essential needs such as drinking, cooking and sanitation. It is important for residents to be mindful of their water consumption and to find alternative ways to conserve water,” Montshiwa expressed.

Montshiwa further suggested using a bucket and sponge for washing cars, sweeping patios and using a pool cover to reduce evaporation.
