Accident bound to happen in Malan Street due to repair work

Motorists are concerned an accident may occur or a person may fall into the hole due to pothole repair work in Malan Street.

Residents and motorists are concerned a disaster may unfold on Malan Street as part of the road is closed due to repair work of a pothole.

Gezela Naude, a frequent motorist along Malan Street explained the pothole has been repaired before and every time it forms again. She noted she believes it is due to a leak underneath the road which causes the ground to wash away.

She added last month, the pothole was opened to repair the problem and the road was closed off on one lane, work on the pothole has however since stood still.

“The lane the pothole is in is completely closed off. This means the cars driving in that lane have to cross to the opposite lane to drive past the hole. Not every person accommodates the traffic and people take chances, an accident is bound to happen,” said Naude.

She noted they would like for the road to be prepared before a child, dog or person falls into the hole or an accident occurs. They have however not received any communication regarding the repairs as of yet and they doubt whether if a part is needed, for work to continue, it would take this long to get it.

The Randfontein Herald has approached Rand West City Local Municipality for comment but the municipality did not respond at the time of print. Their feedback will be published once received.
