Rand West now in charge of unblocking province’s sewer network despite its own backyard in decay

The task of managing sewer networks across the province is now in the hands of Rand West City Local Municipality.

Rand West City Local Municipality (RWCLM) has been appointed as the implementing agent for provincial sewer management and will be overseeing and managing sewer networks across Gauteng.

According to a media statement issued by media relations officer Desmond Pitso, the municipality was appointed with the task of managing sewer networks across the province, including unblocking sewer distribution systems and designing, constructing and maintaining sewer infrastructure.

Pitso further stated as the implementing agent, the municipality will be responsible for resolving blockages, creating plans for new sewer facilities and implementing monitoring systems to assess sewer network performance.

He further mentioned that the mayor, William Matsheke, expressed enthusiasm about the new role.

“We are excited about the opportunity to steer this crucial initiative. Addressing sewer spillages and improving infrastructure across the province is a significant responsibility,” Matsheke said.
