Cable theft leaves plot areas powerless

Several plot areas are currently without electricity due to another incident of cable theft.

The agricultural community is currently experiencing consistent power outages due to a stolen feeder cable.

In the early morning of May 26, residents in plot areas such as Wheatlands, Elandsvlei, Loumarima, Ooster, Botha and Wilbotsdal were left without electricity.

The ward councillors issued a statement where they confirmed that municipal workers were on site replacing the stolen cable. On the afternoon of May 27, the cable was successfully replaced. However, on the morning of May 28, another power outage affected the plots.

This is according to municipal spokesperson, Phillip Montshiwa who stated that the municipality is currently experiencing a challenge at the Drowel Substation. Montshiwa added that one of the feeder cables, responsible for supplying electricity to the transformer with plate number 10MVA, had been stolen.

“Our team is working diligently to restore power in the quickest possible time,” Montshiwa said.
