Water restrictions implemented due to low water levels

Low water levels lead to water restrictions in parts of Randfontein.

Rand West City Local Municipality (RWCLM) confirmed parts of town’s water supply will be heavily affected by Rand Water’s challenges with its Eikenhof Pump Station.

According to municipal spokesperson Phillip Montshiwa, during recent power outages, the Eikenhof station was unable to supply water to its designated areas, leading to disruptions in supply.

As a result, Montshiwa added water restrictions have been implemented, and RWCLM is not the only municipality affected.

“We are in communication with Rand Water, however, RWCLM cannot be held accountable for the water shortages, nor do we have any influence over Rand Water’s operations,” Montshiwa claimed.

Montshiwa added current water levels in reservoirs are below optimal capacity. Water levels in Westonaria stand at 10%, Hillshaven at 5%, Waterpan at 40%, Finsbury at 20%, Greenhills at 20% and Badirile at 40%.

Although there has been a gradual increase in water levels, areas such as Mohlakeng, Greenhills, Toekomsrus, Westonaria, Venterspost, Borwa, Simunye and Bekkersdal are still experiencing low water levels. Residents are encouraged by the municipality to conserve water during this time.
