New mayor makes road rehabilitation a high priority

The Executive Mayor met with the Gauteng MEC for Roads and Transport to discuss the state of the roads in Rand West City.

On November 2, the Executive Mayor of Rand West City Local Municipality (RWCLM), councillor William Matsheke met with the Gauteng MEC for Roads and Transport, Kedibone Diale Tlabela to discuss the current state of the road across town.

According to Tshidiso Tlharipe, spokesperson to the executive mayor, Matsheke emphasised the urgent need for the MEC to assist the municipality with the rehabilitation of road networks in Rand West City.

“There are some roads identified for revamp but the municipality has limited resources to address them. As part of trying to address the poor state of roads that are within the boundaries of the municipality, the executive mayor took the initiative to meet with the MEC and raise frustrations,” Tlharipe stated.

He also confirmed that the meeting was finalised after a technical team was formed. Their job is to now start a business profile on the state of the roads and work out the cost of the rehabilitation. He also stated that the executive mayor and MEC will gather soon to finalise the drafted technical report.
