Residents asked to show patience as Rand Water completes maintenance

Rand West City Local Municipality said that it will take approximately 24 hours or more for the water system to fully recover and for normal drinking water supply to resume.

Rand West City residents and those from surrounding areas can breathe a sigh of relief as Rand Water’s planned maintenance work at its Eikenhof pump station has been completed.

What this means is that water will start being available to residents in due course as the pumping of water has already resumed.

This is according to Rand West City Local Municipality (RWCLM) spokesperson Phillip Montshiwa, who said that it will take approximately 24 hours or more for the water system to fully recover and for normal drinking water supply to resume.

“We would like to thank all communities and stakeholders for their cooperation during the water shutdown period. We apologise for any inconvenience caused and assure customers that we remain committed to delivering safe and clean drinking water to all our customers.

“We will continue to monitor the system and take proactive steps to prevent any future disruptions and we thank our residents for their patience and understanding,” said Montshiwa, adding that communication regarding the water shutdown was made 21 days prior, hence no provision for water tankers was made available.

This was in effort to ensure that people prepare themselves ahead of time and store sufficient water in order to mitigate the disruptions in water supply.
