Drowell substation update: Areas are being switched on one by one

'Thus far things are going well and the substation is not tripping out. Please be patient as they are trying their best to get everyone on' – DA ward councillor Alwyn van Tonder.

Power issues in different parts of town are due to an Eskom transformer that keeps tripping.

According to municipal spokesperson for Rand West City Local Municipality (RWCLM) Phillip Montshiwa, they are notifying the communities that their team worked overnight and replaced all the damaged equipment at the Drowell power station. Testing was also done.

“However, the current problem is that the Eskom transformer trips when we switch on the breaker. This requires Eskom’s assistance. We have engaged with them and their protection team has undertaken to be on-site at 09:00 to test the relay on the infrastructure,” he said in a statement.

Montshiwa added, “We are confident this should assist in resolving the problem. We apologise for any inconvenience.”

Ward councillor Alwyn van Tonder further explained that the team have tested and started switching on the different areas one by one since approximately 10:45.

Thus far, things are going well and the substation is not tripping out. Please be patient as they are trying their best to get everyone on,” Van Tonder said.

He added that residents should please leave their geysers and other electrical items off for about another hour.
