This comes after a busbar breaker at the Drowel substation overheated resulting in the power outage which left a lot of households in the dark.

Rand West City Local Municipality spokesperson Phillip Montshiwa said they will provide a detailed report after the relevant team has evaluated the substation.

“The community is notified of challenges encountered with the Drowel substation.

The problem arose as a result of overheating of a busbar breaker. We will only be able to provide a more accurate report and lead time on repairs today [June 13], after assessing the extent of the damage,” said Montshiwa.

Meanwhile, areas affected include certain parts of Greenhills, Randgate, a portion of Homelake, Tambotie Mall, Elandsvlei, Wilbotsdal, Botha plots, Loumarina plots, Wheatlands, Afri Village, Dan Thlome and Oosterplot.

“We apologise profusely for this inconvenience and assure the community of our continued efforts to ensure uninterrupted services. We kindly ask that residents remain vigilant and report any suspicious people/movement around municipal infrastructure. Please contact the police or the CPF if you encounter any suspicious activity immediately,” Montshiwa concluded.
