RWCLM says it will take more time before power is fully restored

Rand West City Local Municipality (RWCLM) announces new challenge in fully restoring power to large parts of town. 'We are struggling with main feeder cables in Amatola Street, which affects four mini-substations'

Although the Rand West City Local Municipality (RWCLM) has stayed true to its word and has been restoring electricity in parts of town that are heavily affected, they are not out of the woods just yet.

On February 10, RWCLM was happy to announce that electricity has been restored to parts of Finsbury, as promised, and said other parts will be switched on sometime today (February 10) and other surrounding areas will also follow suit but new challenges have come into play.

According to RWCLM spokesperson Phillip Montshiwa, “We have managed to restore electricity to parts of Finsbury, however, we are currently struggling with the main feeder cables in Amatola Street, which affects four mini-substations. The recent rains have also made it difficult for us to conduct the work that needed to be done. We also picked an earth fault on the Ten Acres overhead lines tripping out the main breaker at the Finsbury substation. We are doing our best to locate the fault on Ten Acres lines,” said Montshiwa, who added that the municipality apologised for the inconvenience caused.

For almost a month, parts of the area and those in surrounding plots including Ten Acres and Middelvlei have been without electricity due to cable theft in the area. This sparked tension among residents who took to the streets on several occasions to protest against the delay in fixing the substation
