Power crisis: New date announced to restore electricity supply

Rand West City Local Municipality (RWCLM) issued a statement and made yet another promise saying electricity is expected to be restored this Friday, February 10.

Residents of Finsbury and its surrounding areas have no choice but to wait until February 10 and see whether or not their electricity will be restored.

Rand West City Local Municipality (RWCLM) issued a statement on Tuesday, February 7 saying electricity is expected to be back on by at least Friday, February 10 – a promise that is yet to materialise.

Residents of Finsbury and its surrounding areas including Ten Acres have been without electricity for more than three weeks due to cable theft in the area.

Just last week, the RWCLM issued a statement stating that electricity would be restored by February 5 at the latest, a promise that fell flat on its face.

RWCLM spokesperson Phillip Montshiwa said they are confident that lights will be back on in Finsbury.

Based on the physical inspection done at the Finsbury substation on February 6, we are happy to inform you that work is at an advanced stage. We are also confident that electricity restoration should be done this Friday (February 10),” said Montshiwa.

While this promise has been made, the same does not apply to residents of Ten acres, as they will continue to play the waiting game, where the electricity in the area is concerned.

According to Montshiwa, this is because of acts of vandalism at a mini substation in that jurisdiction.

“The arrangement stipulated does not include Ten Acres due to the vandalism at the mini substation in the area. However, work to rehabilitate the mini substation is at an advanced stage and we hope to restore electricity next week Wednesday,” said Montshiwa who again, added that the municipality apologises for the inconvenience.
