Water restrictions loom due to heat, power supply issues

Rand Water rings the alarm bell saying water restrictions may be implemented unless consumers watch their usage due to extreme heat and power supply issues.

Rand Water has released a statement saying water restrictions may be implemented if consumers do not work with them.

A statement released by Rand Water’s Makenosi Maroo said they would like to appeal to consumers to use water sparingly as they have noticed an increase in water demand due to the high temperatures being experienced.

“As a result, the water storage in its reservoirs has been rapidly declining.”

The statement read that the situation has been compounded by the fact that there were multiple power supply failures to the Rand Water systems between January 13 and 15.

“Currently, the organisation is monitoring the water demand to protect the integrity of its systems.”

If the consumption continues to increase, Rand Water will however have to implement water supply restrictions.

“Rand Water has formally requested its customers to monitor water consumption in their respective areas. Rand Water is urging all consumers to use water sparingly to circumvent any water restrictions.”
