Landi Vos, Adriaan’s daughter, told the Herald that her father was shot twice in the knee and once in the back. The attackers also burned his house down.
She explained her father heard the dogs barking just after 01:00 on March 16. Vos then went outside to check but could not see anything. He then decided to take a drive down to the kraal to check on their goats since their security cameras weren’t working all night.
“As soon as he drove out of the gate shots were fired from the left side and he was hit twice in the knee. He drove away fast but the bakkie died and he was shot in the back.
Somehow, he was able to get the bakkie to start again and drive to a neighbour for help.”
According to Landi, the neighbours were able to stop the bleeding while waiting for the ambulance and police to arrive. That was when they noticed Vos’ house was burning down.
“When the ambulance arrived, my father was first taken to Leratong Hospital before he was transferred to Helen Joseph Hospital. The bullets from his knee were removed, however, the bullet that went through his back is currently lodged in his lung. The bullet formed a blood clot in his lung and medical officials are keeping him for observation to consider the next steps.”
Vos’ one dog and bird also died in the fire. Only two dogs survived.
The family is asking for the community’s help with donations of clothing and other essentials since everything was destroyed in the fire.
