‘Her life comes first’: Kidnapped woman reunited with family

The Randfontein Police received notice of Mapule Oganne's safe return in the early hours of February 2.

The kidnapped Mapule Oganne has been reunited with her family.

On February 2, Rand West City Local Municipality (RWCLM) along with the Randfontein police visited the family of the kidnapped Oganne where it was confirmed that she was safely released.

Also that day, the spokesperson to the executive mayor, Tshidiso Tlharipe, spoke to the family who stated that even though Oganne has been found, it is of great importance to focus on her well-being.

Council speaker Selina Moumakwe further confirmed that the municipality is aware of the high crime rates, however, the municipality has its stakeholders to ensure an increase in capacity for resources. Moumakwe added that everyone has been praying for Oganne’s safe return and that Oganne must receive counselling so that she can move forward.

“She is traumatised and she has been through a lot. We do not want to open more wounds,” Moumakwe stated.

She further highlighted that the matter is still currently under investigation. Therefore, the municipality would rather follow strict guidelines to ensure that the investigation runs smoothly. The public representatives were also joined by Randfontein Police Station Commander, Brigadier Jacob Manamela.

“I am truly happy that Oganne is back home with her family. Her life comes first. The community was extremely worried about her safety. Let us allow the investigation to continue,” Manamela stated.

He offered Oganne and her family direct communication with him and his colleagues and stated that she is allowed to make use of police services when needed.
