Kidnapped woman identified: Ransom demanded

The executive mayor to visit the family of kidnapped Mapule Oganne.

The Executive Mayor of Rand West City Local Municipality, William Matsheke, will be visiting the family of the kidnapped woman who has since been identified as Mapule Oganne.

The mayor will make the heartfelt visit at noon on February 2. Matsheke will be accompanied by the council speaker, council whip and Randfontein Police Station Commander, Brigadier Jacob Manamela.

Executive mayor spokesperson Tshidiso Tlharipe stated that Matsheke will use this opportunity to pay homage to Oganne’s family and comfort them. He also confirmed a ransom is demanded.

“The kidnappers are seeking a ransom from the family. As the local authority, we are appalled by these ruthless deeds and we shall not rest until these criminals face the wrath of the law.”

Tlharipe added that the mayor is deeply concerned about the growing violence launched against women and children in Rand West City.

“The mayor condemns these heinous acts and urges everyone to assist law enforcement agencies in bringing the perpetrators to book.”

He further observed the escalation of car hijackings that are taking place within Rand West City.

“The mayor will also take the opportunity to raise all concerns related to criminal activities with the Brigadier.”

Oganne was kidnapped on January 30 following a business robbery that took place in West Porges.
