Man arrested after cache of explosives, and materials found at premises

Crime intelligence and the West Rand K9 Unit arrested a 52-year-old foreign national for having explosives.

Last week, a team consisting of members of crime intelligence and West Rand K9 followed up on information in Carletonville about a man in possession of explosives reportedly used for ATM bombings.

“Upon arrival at the said place, the identified man and the premises were searched and 500m of detonating cord, 33 blasting cartridges, and nine shock tube detonators were found hidden in a vehicle,” said police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi.

The 52-year-old foreign national man was subsequently arrested for having explosives and appeared in the Carletonville Magistrate’s Court.
