Truck shot at, brought to a standstill after evading roadblock

It turns out that the trailers attached to the head of the truck had suspected fraudulent license discs.

Traffic was heavily affected on Homestead Avenue in Rand West City after a side tipper truck was shot at and brought to a standstill on December 4.

Police officers and Public Safety were also on the scene.

This comes after the truck in question failed to stop at a roadblock in Magaliesburg, thus raising suspicion.

Local security company Mapogo A Mathamaga operations manager Danie Vermeulen spoke to the Herald and gave details of what transpired.

This is another angle showing the condition of the wheels of the truck after they were shot at, thus bringing the truck to a standstill.

“The truck was initially stopped at a roadblock in Magaliesburg to conduct normal vehicle inspection as per norm. However, the driver of the truck decided to drive through the roadblock and that’s when traffic officers immediately gave chase. Police officers were also present in the chase and we also gave our support. Our officers proceeded to shoot at the tyres of the truck and that’s when it managed to come to a standstill,” said Vermeulen.

The wheels of the truck in question were shot at and blown off after it failed to stop at a roadblock in Magaliesburg.

He added that upon inspection at the scene, the two trailers attached to the truck were found to have fraudulent license discs and the driver of the truck was arrested.

The operations manager of a local security company Danie Vermeulen said upon inspection of the truck at the scene, it was found that the license discs of the trailers were fraudulent.

He was charged with reckless and negligent driving and Vermeulen said the police were still on the scene and that investigations were underway.

The Herald will provide an update if and when available.
