Security guard robbed of firearm during one of three business break-ins

A security guard was overpowered on site and also robbed of his firearm during one of three business break-ins in just three days.

Local security company Mapogo A Mathamaga had its hands full with crime this past week, particularly business break-ins and theft.

According to Mapogo A Mathamaga operations manager Danie Vermeulen, they responded to at least three crimes of this nature just days apart.

The first break-in occurred in Service Road in Randfontein South on November 1 where perpetrators gained entry onto the business property by cutting wires of the outside alarm beams.

“They then entered the main building by forcing the front door open and proceeded to steal an unknown number of items,” said Vermeulen.

He added that another incident of business break-in and theft occurred on Steyer Street, Aureus on November 2.

Perpetrators gained entry onto the property by making a hole in the perimeter wall. They then overpowered the security guard and robbed him of his firearm before forcing open the security office and main door to the building. They then proceeded to steal several items as well.

Meanwhile, the third incident recorded is also that of a business break-in and theft which occurred on Chevrolet Street, Aureus on November 3.

“In this particular incident, perpetrators gained entry by breaking the lock of the main gate and they also went on to break the lock of the gas bottle cage. They proceeded to steal an unknown amount of LPG gas and also stole three Hyundai vehicles from the premises,” said Vermeulen.
