Security guard sentenced to life imprisonment for rape

A 27-year-old security guard received life imprisonment for a rape incident that occurred two years ago.

Bohlale Makhosane, a 27-year-old security guard, has found himself on the wrong side of the law and was sentenced to life imprisonment on six counts of rape.

The sentence was handed down at the Westonaria Magistrate’s Court where Makhosane was also further sentenced to 18 months imprisonment for assault with the intent of causing grievous bodily harm.

National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) regional spokesperson in the Gauteng local division, Phindi Mjonondwane revealed that a victim’s life changed on September 26, 2021.

“The victim was with her boyfriend near Bekkersdal. The couple went to the R5 tavern where Makhosane was employed as a security officer stationed at the gate. At around midnight and when the tavern was closing, Makhosane suggested that the couple join him at his place where the party continued until the couple decided it was time to leave,” said Mjonondwane.

It was during this time that Makhosane accompanied the couple and while this happened, an argument ensued between Makhosane and the victim’s boyfriend.

This led to Makhosane stabbing the boyfriend with a knife.

“Makhosane then proceeded to take the victim back to his house and raped her. He then held the victim hostage overnight and continued to rape her several times. When he released the victim, she went to the police station. The police accompanied the victim to Makhosane’s place where she pointed him out,” said Mjonondwane.

She added that Makhosane pleaded not guilty and told the court that there was consensual sexual intercourse between him and the victim.

In arguing for a harsh sentence, State Advocate Moss Malahlela put to the court that the ordeal done by Makhosane was very serious and it is prevalent not only in their jurisdiction but throughout the country.

The ordeal left the victim traumatised in that she had to relocate back to Zimbabwe. Makhosane also showed no sign of remorse.

The advocate further put forward that Makhosane had an intention to stab the victim’s boyfriend to remove him from the picture so that he could sexually violate the victim.
