Security guard kidnapped during break-in at complex

Not even security guards are safe nowadays as one of them was kidnapped during a break-in.

A security guard was overpowered and then kidnapped in Greenhills over the weekend.

Mapogo A Mathamaga operations manager Danie Vermeulen confirmed that the incident occurred at a complex in Nightingale Street, Greenhills on October 1.

“Perpetrators gained entry by lifting electric fence wires and jumping over the perimeter fence. They then went on to overpower the security guard and steal a white VW Polo. They also kidnapped the security officer and then crashed through the gate,” said Vermeulen, who added that the security officer was later dropped off in Kagiso.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident, the security company also responded to an incident of housebreaking and theft in Horingbek Street, Helikon Park.

This was on September 25 and comes after perpetrators gained entry by jumping over a perimeter wall and went on to break a window at the residence.

They then proceeded to steal all water taps and various electrical cables.

On September 27, a case of armed robbery was reported in 12th Street, Homelake. This is where two armed men entered a construction site and held security officers at gunpoint and robbed them of their cellphones before fleeing the scene.

Another incident that the company responded to was that of an attempted break-in on Sauer Street, Randgate on September 28.

According to the information received, the perpetrators gained entry and forced open the garage door.

The alarm went off and that’s when the perpetrators fled on foot. The latest incident responded to was in 2nd Street, Aureus on October 2. This is where perpetrators entered the workshop through the roof and went on to steal four spray guns and two car batteries before fleeing the scene.
