Students robbed at gunpoint at Helikon Park student home

Criminals target student residence: 19 rooms robbed.

At least two armed robbers wearing masks stormed a student residence in the Helikon Park suburb and robbed them.

Captain Solomon Sibiya of the West Rand Police confirmed the crime occurred at about midnight on August 1.

“The robbers gained entry through the kitchen door which was not locked when they found five student friends. Upon entering the kitchen, an armed person speaking isiZulu ordered the students to lie down on the floor. They then took the students, one after the other, to their different rooms where they took 15 more cellphones. About 19 rooms were searched from where cellphones, sound bars, and TV sets were taken.”

Sibiya said the robbers thereafter fled the scene on foot.

“No shots were fired and no injuries were sustained during the robbery.”

Police in the West Rand are now appealing to members of the public to assist with information that can lead to the successful apprehension of the suspects.
