Randgate shop owner held at gunpoint

A cellphone, cigarettes and other items were stolen during an armed robbery at a shop in Randgate.

A suspect held a shop owner at gunpoint during an armed robbery in Botha Street, Randgate last Friday, May 26.

Mapogo A Mathamaga Security’s operations manager Danie Vermeulen explained the incident took place at 17:26.

Two suspects entered the shop and one suspect held the owner at gunpoint and robbed the owner of one cellphone, an unknown number of cigarettes, and other items,” stated Vermeulen.

It was one of three serious incidents reported to Mapogo in Rand West City for the period from Monday, May 22 to Sunday, May 28.

Details about other incidents:

1. Wednesday, May 24 at 19:50 – Attempted break-in in Constance Road, Homelake

A suspect attempted entry by breaking the back door safety gate but fled the scene when confronted by the client.

2. Sunday, May 28 at 22:55 – Housebreaking and theft in Falcon Street, Greenhills

Suspects gained entry through the neighbour’s premises and lifted the main gate off the rail. The suspects went on to force open the door leading into the entertainment area and stole one TV and an amplifier.
