Close to 100 arrests in latest West Rand O Kae Molao operation

Police on the West Rand made 92 arrests during the latest operation, 29 of them involved illegal immigrants and a total of 30 960ml of liquor was also confiscated.

The West Rand District Police arrested 92 individuals of which 29 included undocumented people as well as confiscated 30 960ml of liquor during the latest O Kae Molao Operation.

Visibility to reduce crime was intensified in the West Rand District by police and other law enforcement on Thursday, May 25.

West Rand District Police spokesperson Captain Raymond Sebonyane said as crime and violence continue to be a costly pandemic within the district, various members availed resources and conducted roadblocks, stop and searches, crime prevention, tracing of wanted suspects, visits to liquor outlets, and second-hand dealers in the aim to fight and prevent all forms of criminal activities in and around the Randfontein policing precinct.

The operation saw 92 arrests for various crimes such as three for murder, one for common robbery, one for house robbery, 10 for assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, one for assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, six for common assault, three for common assault under the domestic violence act, four for hijacking, five for theft, seven for malicious damage to property, one for possession of the stolen property, one for possession of precious metal (gold), one for dealing in drugs, two for dealing in dagga, eight for possession of drugs, two for drunken driving, two for illegal mining, two for contravention of protection order, one for intimidation, one for crimen injuria, one for dealing in liquor without a license and 29 undocumented persons.

A total of nine road traffic fines were issued to the value of R7 500 and one liquor outlet was closed and 30 960ml of liquor was confiscated.

Sebonyane added that all arrested suspects will appear before the Randfontein Magistrate’s Court soon.

On behalf of the West Rand District Commissioner Major General Fred Kekana, Carletonville Police Acting Station Commander Colonel Dorah Morebodi thanked all the police and other law enforcement agencies who committed themselves that they will continue making sure the community is safe and those against the law are brought to book and face the full might of the law.
