Cancer sufferer allegedly assaulted by landlord

The resident and her husband were behind with their rent for two months and had just paid a certain portion of their debt when the incident occurred.

Resident Samantha Palmer is fuming after her landlord allegedly assaulted her. This after she failed to hand over a key for the gate.

She claims the incident occurred at the landlord’s property in Randgate on April 16.

Randfontein Police spokesperson Sergeant Carmen Hendricks confirmed that a docket has been opened and that the incident is under investigation.

According to Palmer, she was going on about her day when her landlord laid hands on her.

“I was in my flat [which I am renting out] from the landlord. I was dishing up for my child and that’s when she stormed in and demanded keys to the gate. I told her I can’t give her the keys because I need to use them to open them for my daughter when she gets back from school. That’s when she decided to grab the keys from me.

“I grabbed them back and that’s when she physically attacked me,” said Palmer, who added that her landlord also switched off their electricity supply at the time but has since turned it back on.

Palmer and her husband were behind with their rent for two months and had just paid a certain portion of their debt when the incident occurred.

She suffers from cancer and had been to the hospital for chemotherapy a few days before when the incident occurred.

The Herald reached out to the landlord who declined to comment at this stage.
