Police place foot on the throats of criminals

Police continued to intensify their fight against crime with another Operation Okae Molao which saw 85 arrests happen.

On Thursday, April 20 West Rand police resumed their efforts in the fight against crime during another Okae Molao Operation in Krugersdorp and Muldersdrift.

According to Sergeant Kgomotso Mogwere a total of 85 arrests were made thanks to the operation which saw illegal substances and firearms being repossessed by the police.

The operation was supported by various stakeholders that include the Gauteng Department of Community Safety, Department of Home Affairs, Mogale City Public Safety, Community Police Forum, and community patrollers.

Those arrested committed the following offenses:

• One arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearm
• Five suspects arrested for dealing in liquor without a license
• Two suspects for dealing in dagga
• One suspect arrested for possession of drugs
• One person for possession dagga
• Two for illegal mining
• One for possession of illegal an gambling machine
• One arrested for possession of house-breaking implements
• Four arrested for possession of suspected stolen property
• 22 Arrests for being undocumented citizens
• One arrest for loitering for prostitution

During the operation, the police were also able to trace wanted suspects and arrest them for the following crimes:

• One for armed robbery
• Two for common robbery
• Two for house robbery
• One for business robbery
• One for motor vehicle hijacking
• One for housebreaking and theft
• Three for possession of drugs (Warrant of Arrest)
• One for possession of the stolen property
• Five for theft
• One for fraud
• Six for malicious damage to property
• Two for contravention of a protection order
• One for contempt of court
• Two people were arrested for crimen injuria
• One for culpable homicide
• One for reckless and or negligent driving
• Eight for assault to cause grievous bodily harm
• Nine for assault common

Other crimes would include 81 road traffic fines to the value of R72 800 issued, 29 5910ml of liquor confiscated for noncompliance under the Gauteng Liquor Act, and two motor vehicles (trucks) being confiscated for further investigation.

On behalf of the West Rand District Commissioner, Carletonville Station Commander Brigadier Merinda Theron said she was happy with the outcome of the operation and hopes that SAPS makes more progress in the programme.
