West Rand Police tighten grip on crime with another 132 arrests

Police officers from the 13 stations in the West Rand intensified their efforts against crime and arrested a total of 132 people during an intensive operation.

Police officers in the West Rand continue to close in on criminals and have arrested a total of 132 suspects in the different policing precincts of the West Rand.

This was from April 14 to April 16 during an intensive operation that yielded positive results in different areas.

This was through a joint effort by the police which included other law enforcement officers from Mogale City Traffic Police, Rand West City Traffic Police, Merafong City Traffic Police, and other government departments.

West Rand District police spokesperson Warrant Officer Audrey Sefara said the arrests also included the arrests secured during Operation Okae Molao which was held in the Randfontein policing precinct and ran from April 15 to April 16.

The arrests in question include the following:

• Two for possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition
• Thirty-four for drunken driving
• One for pointing a firearm
• One for theft and assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm
• Seven for assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm
• Two for business robbery
• Three for kidnapping
• One for theft of a motor vehicle
• Four for theft and common assault
• Seven for theft
•Two for assault with intent to cause grievous body under the Domestic Violence Act
• One for assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and malicious damage to property
• Five for common assault under Domestic Violence Act
• Four for malicious damage to property
• One for intimidation, crimen injuria, and resisting arrest
• Three for contravention of a protection order
• One for contempt of court
• One for possession of mine property
• Five for possession of gold-bearing material
• Eight for possession of substance suspected to be drugs
• One for possession of stolen property
• One for dealing drugs
• One for possession of dangerous weapons and substances suspected to be drugs
• Two for possession of housebreaking implements
• One for contravention of the mine health act
• One for intimidation
• One for intimidation under the Domestic Violence Act
• Five for dealing in liquor without a license
• Nine for undocumented persons

Meanwhile, other minor offenses such as shoplifting, drunkenness, and disorder, as well as trespassing were also policed.

All arrested suspects are expected to appear before different magistrate courts within the district.
