Dealer arrested in Bekkersdal: Drugs worth R55K seized

Police acted on a tip-off and found 494 mandrax tablets, 363 packets of crystal meth, dagga weighing 6.185, and 21 zip lock bags of dagga at a house the suspect was occupying.

A drug dealer has been arrested in Simunye, Bekkersdal after police found hundreds of mandrax tablets, almost 400 packets of crystal meth, and bags of dagga at his house.

This was during an intensive search operation held by police and the Community Policing Forum (CPF) in Simunye last Tuesday, April 4. The suspect is believed to be 30 years old.

West Rand District Police spokesperson Captain Solomon Sibiya said they were acting on a tip-off when they made the arrest.

“The police received a tip-off about a suspect who was dealing in drugs in Simunye extension 2 and then proceeded to an identified address. Upon arrival, they pounced on the suspect and ransacked the house in an intensive search. During this time, they found 494 mandrax tablets, 363 packets of crystal meth, dagga weighing 6.185, and 21 zip lock bags of dagga,” said Captain Sibiya.

He added that the confiscated drugs are estimated to be worth R55 000 street value.

The suspect was arrested and later detained at Bekkersdal Police, where a drug possession and dealing case was opened.

Bekkersdal Police Station Commander Colonel Phumelele Matamela has praised the members for their swift response which led to the successful arrest of the suspect.

The suspect will appear in Westonaria Magistrate’s Court soon.
