A vehicle that was hijacked in Lenasia was found stripped in Zuurbekom. Two men have since been arrested.

The arrest was made on Tuesday, March 7, and follows as a result of an intelligence-driven operation by police in the Zuurbekom area.

Bekkersdal Police spokesperson Sergeant Linkie Lefakane said the vehicle was found to have been hijacked in Lenasia.

“The Bekkersdal police’s crime prevention members in partnership with the West Rand Flying Squad received information of a vehicle that was found stripped and suspected to be hijacked.

They acted on this information and that’s when they found a frame of a vehicle in an open veld. Through further investigation, the officers were able to discover more parts at a nearby plot,” said Lefakane.

She added that two suspects were then arrested and it was discovered that the frame was that of a Toyota Quest that was reported to have been hijacked in Lenasia.

The duo is set to be charged with unlawful possession of a hijacked vehicle and will appear in the Westonaria Magistrate’s Court soon.

Bekkersdal station Commander Phumelele Matamela has since thanked the officers for their hard work and dedication and for always ensuring that all who are committing crimes are brought to book.

“Thank you for your continued effort, this shall not go unnoticed,” said Matamela.
