Weekly Operation O Kae Molao arrests in Gauteng more than 2 000: 196 in West Rand District

National Police revealed that 196 people were arrested in the West Rand District during the weekly Operation O Kae Molao (2 000 + in Gauteng).

Police in Gauteng made scores of arrests through Operation O Kae Molao which is conducted weekly throughout the province.

This week, the operation saw more than 2 000 suspects arrested for different crimes including undocumented persons.

“Most of the suspects were arrested during the tracing of wanted suspects which is the first phase of the operation conducted by the detectives,” said Gauteng Police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Sello.

In the Tshwane District, police arrested more than 680 suspects through multiple crime prevention duties that include, roadblocks, stop and searches, vehicle checkpoints, and compliance inspections. In the Johannesburg District, police arrested approximately 570 suspects for various crimes such as having suspected stolen property, dealing in drugs, drunken driving, malicious damage to property, and assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm among others.

In the Ekurhuleni District, police arrested almost 520 suspects for different crimes and seized drugs, unlicensed firearms, and live ammunition while a total of 196 suspects were arrested in the West Rand District. Lastly, 108 suspects were arrested in the Sedibeng District.

“Some of the suspects have already been released after paying fines and others are expected to appear in different courts throughout the province from Monday, February, 20.”

The Deputy Provincial Commissioner for Crime Detection, Major General Mbuso Khumalo who was leading this past weekend’s provincial operation in Tshwane has applauded all law enforcement agencies, Community Police Forums, and private security companies for their continued dedication to fighting crime and stamping the authority of the State.
