Police tighten grip on crime in Rand West with another 120 arrests

Another Operation Okae Molao held in Bekkersdal and Westonaria resulted in a total of 121 people being arrested for various crimes.

Police officers from the 13 stations in the West Rand intensified their efforts against crime and have arrested a total of 121 people during the Gauteng Provincial Okae Molao Operation.

The operation took place in Bekkersdal and Westonaria this past weekend, November 12-13, and was supported by other units from the province as well as other law enforcement officers.

The arrests made were two for unlicensed firearms, one for being in possession of stolen vehicle, three for hijackings, thirty six for drunken driving, two for dealing in dagga, one for dealing in drugs, two for possession of dagga, two for trading in liquor without a license, 29 undocumented persons, 10 for assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, ten for common assault, six for common assault under domestic violence, one for sexual assault, one for business robbery, two for house breaking and theft, one for theft of motor vehicle, one for possession of stolen property, three for theft, one for fraud, two for malicious damage to property, one for intimidation and four for reckless and negligent driving.

West Rand District Police Commissioner Major General Fred Kekana appealed to motorists travelling in and out of the region to exercise patience when approaching road blocks.

“We will continue to carry out crime prevention operations within the district. We ask the members of the community out there to be patient and co-operate when they get to police roadblocks and vehicle checkpoints,” said Kekana.
