Pedestrian pepper-sprayed during armed robbery

In a separate incident, an employee confirmed that two armed males entered the premises, held him at gunpoint, and stole a laptop computer and a cell phone before fleeing the scene.

It was a relatively busy week for Mapogo A Mathamaga Security’s client base in Randfontein.

Operations manager at Mapogo, Ben Willemse said five incidents of which most were housebreaking and theft were reported for the period between Monday, September 26 and Sunday, October 2.

A breakdown of the incidents:

• Tuesday, September 27 at 04:51 – Vehicle theft, Harred Road, Aureus
Perpetrators forced open the gate, entered the property and proceeded to the rear of the premises where they stole a white Isuzu 8 ton truck and fled the scene after ripping out the tracking unit.

• Thursday, September 28 at 19:51 – Attempted armed robbery, Godfrey Street, Homelake
Mapogo officers were requested to assist a pedestrian who was approached by seven perpetrators while he was walking along Godfrey Street. They sprayed him with pepper spray and took out a firearm. He attempted to fight back and the perpetrators fled without taking anything.

• Friday, September 30 at 13:16 – Attempted housebreaking, Thinus de Jongh Street, Greenhills
Perpetrators broke the lock on the small gate to gain entry, and forced open the front door and safety gate. The alarm activated and the perpetrators fled the scene.

• Friday, September 30 at 14:41 – Armed robbery, Main Reef Road, Randfontein CBD
On arrival at the premises contact was made with an employee who confirmed that two armed males had entered the premises and held him at gunpoint. They stole a laptop computer and a cell phone, and fled the scene.

• Saturday, October 1 at 06:27 – Housebreaking and theft, Main Reef Road, Randfontein CBD
During the evening perpetrators forced open a door at the back of the premises and closed it from the inside with a brick. They damaged the alarm system, and stole alcohol, cigarettes and other items before fleeing the scene.
