Housebreaking and theft dominate Mapogo crime report

Out of the six crime incidents reported to Mapogo security this past week, most were housebreaking and theft-related with the area most targeted being Homelake.

It was a relatively busy week for Mapogo A Mathamaga Security’s client base in Randfontein.

Operations manager at Mapogo, Ben Willemse said six incidents of which most were housebreaking and theft were reported for the period between Monday, September 5 and Sunday, September 11.

A breakdown of the incidents:

• Monday, September 5 at 14:59 – House robbery, Vergelegen Street, Culemborg Park: Perpetrators entered the house by informing the domestic worker that they had work to do on site. Once inside they told the domestic worker to sit down, and they stole various household items from the house before fleeing the scene.

• Monday, September 5 at 15:26 – Theft of gate motor, Greenhills Avenue, Greenhills:
 Perpetrators cut the fence, stole the gate motor and fled the scene.

• Tuesday, September 6 at 02:32 – Attempted break-in, Tambotie Street, Homelake: Perpetrators broke a window at the front of the premises and when the alarm activated they fled the scene.

• Wednesday, September 7 at 10:28 – Theft, Homestead Avenue, Homelake: Perpetrators gained entry into the premises, stole an outside light and fled the scene.

• Saturday, September 10 at 08:59 – Housebreaking and theft, Main Reef Road, Randfontein: Perpetrators broke a window at the back of the premises to gain entry, stole an unknown amount of cash and other items, and fled the scene.

• Sunday, September 12 at 00:16 – Housebreaking and theft, Main Road, Middelvlei: Perpetrators gained access onto the premises by breaking a window, forcing open the burglar bar and stealing a television and speaker before fleeing the scene.
