Zuurbekom community members are up in arms and are demanding answers from Bekkersdal police regarding the death of 80-year-old Gladys Sennye who was strangled at her home in Zuurbekom
The incident occurred on July 24, 2018 and residents alleged that by July this year not much had been done to solve the case.

This sparked a peaceful protest with more than 300 people from Westonaria, Bekkersdal and Simunye taking to the streets and marching to the Bekkersdal Police Station on July 22 this year.
They demanded answers and that justice be served.
Police spokesperson Sergeant Linkie Lefakane said the matter had been dealt with prior to the march and the police had contacted Sennye’s family.
I can confirm that the community marched to the police station and handed over the memorandum to Lieutenant Colonel Andile Moshane who was the acting station commander at the time. No suspect was arrested in connection with the case and it was closed and finalised in court on June 22, 2021.
“This feedback was communicated to the deceased’s family,” said Lefakane.
