Housebreakings dominate Mapogo’s crime list yet again

During an incident perpetrator attempted to steal a light when the response officers noticed the movement at the premises. They approached the suspect, caught him in the act, arrested him and handed him over to the police for further investigation.

It was a relatively busy week for Mapogo A Mathamaga Security’s client base in Randfontein.

Operations manager at Mapogo, Ben Willemse said 12 incidents were reported for the period between Monday, August 22 and Sunday, August 28.

A breakdown of the incidents:

• Monday, August 22 at 02:11 – Housebreaking and theft on Homestead Avenue, Homelake: A perpetrator broke a window on the front of the premises to gain entry, stole various items from the business and fled the scene when the alarm activated.

• Monday, August 22 at 07:58 – Theft on Van Riebeeck Road, Homelake: Perpetrators entered the premises, stole solar lights and fled the scene.

• Monday, August 22 at 09:00 – Attempted break-in on Cormorant Street, Helikonpark: Perpetrators gained entry over the fence, attempted to force open the lock of a Wendy house, and fled the scene when the alarm activated.

• Monday, August 22 at 09:17 – Housebreaking and theft on Tambotie Street, Homelake: Perpetrators broke a window at the kitchen to gain entry into the premises, stole two small gas stoves and a gas bottle, and fled the scene.

• Monday, August 22 at 22:21 – Theft and arrest on Homestead Avenue, Homelake: A perpetrator attempted to steal a light when the response officers noticed the movement at the premises. They approached the suspect, caught him in the act, arrested him and handed him over to the police for further investigation.

• Tuesday, August 23 at 01:51 – Housebreaking and theft on Tambotie Street, Homelake: Perpetrators gained access into the premises by removing the putty from the window frame, stole R500 cash and cigarettes, and fled the scene when the alarm activated.

• Tuesday, August 23 at 13:57 – Theft on Populier Avenue, Greenhills: Perpetrators opened the gate by lifting it from the rail, stole the owners’ dogs and fled the scene.

 Wednesday, August 24 at 11:04 – Damage to property on Arend Drive, Helikon Park: Perpetrators damaged the premises wall and fled the scene.

• Wednesday, August 24 at 13:38 – Housebreaking and theft on Aasvoel Road, Helikon Park: Perpetrators driving a silver Mercedes-Benz lifted the gate from the rail and went to the back of the premises where they forced open the safety gate and door. They stole a flat-screen television and two bags from the bedroom and fled the scene.

• Thursday, August 25 at 17:09 – Housebreaking and theft on Tier Street, Greenhills: Perpetrators lifted the gate from its rail, and forced open a sliding door, stole a flat-screen television and fled the scene.

• Friday, August 27 at 04:38 – Theft on Steyr Street, Aureus: Perpetrators gained access over the wall, stole two bull bars and fled the scene. One bull bar was recovered outside the premises.

• Saturday, August 28 at 01:21 – Damage to property on Finch Road, Greenhills: Driver under the influence of alcohol lost control of his vehicle and drove through the palisade fence of the premises.
