Toekomsrus NPO to safeguard community

This will be to mitigate the risk of housebreaking and street mugging which occur frequently.

In an effort to tackle crime-related incidents and numerous social ills in Toekomsrus and Randfontein, the Myburgh Foundation, which is a non-profit organisation, has launched a Community Safety Intervention Unit, aimed at safeguarding the community.

This was on August 8 in Toekomsrus with the aim of eradication the criminal element in the community and assisting people in emergency situations by providing rapid armed response.

According to the foundation’s Operations Manager Randy Christian, this unit is part of their welfare and humanitarian initiative.

Safety is a huge concern in our different communities and we as an organisation take it seriously. We will be working with the police, as well as various Community Policing Forums (CPF) by deploying visible street patrollers in our areas.

“This will be to mitigate the risk of housebreaking and street muggings which occur frequently, especially in Toekomsrus,” said Christian who added that they would also be providing armed response to assist people who fall victim to robbery, mugging and housebreaking.

Their armed response team will assist by responding to crime incidents when the police might be delayed in arriving at a scene.

He added that they would be operating within the ambit of the law, merely assisting the community.
